Lawmakers Debate Pets on Trains Act
While it may sound like a sequel to a certain Samuel L. Jackson film, it's no joke: lawmakers in Washington DC have presented a bill that will allow dogs on certain Amtrak trains.
The bill, sponsored by Rep. Steve Cohen (D-Tenn), Rep. Jeff Denham (R-Calif.), and Rep. John Campbell (R-Calif.), would require Amtrak to allow pets on trains by designating one "Pet car" per passenger train. Cats and small dogs could ride in kennels with carry-on luggage, and larger pets could ride in the cargo area.
"Harry Truman said, ‘If you want a friend in Washington, get a dog," said Cohen. "But you have to get your dog to Washington. And Amtrak's the best way to do it."
