Officials in Kansas City are warning pet owners about a new outbreak of Parvovirus. The virus, which is often found in the feces of infected dogs and can live outside for up to one year, attacks dividing cells in a dog's body and can damage the heart muscle, causing cardiac problems and death.

Parvovirus (also known as Parvo) is a serious, highly contagious viral infection of dogs that causes lethargy, severe vomiting, loss of appetite and/or bloody diarrhea.
